Spring Air Expects To Cease Operations

The future looks dim for major bedding manufacturer, Spring Air. A company official has announced that without an investor emerging, the company will most likely be shutting down operations very soon. Although, a bankruptcy filing hasn’t been officially announced.
All of the companies licensees still remain in business. But, out of nine corporated owned plants the company holds, all of them but two shut down this past Monday. A planned buyout had been anticipated to save the company, but the venture has been unsuccessful.
Based on 2007 sales, Spring Air was ranked as the sixth largest bedding manufacturer in the United States. That year, the company had shipped an estimated $272 million in products, but that amount was over 17 percent lower than the prior year.
As recently as last month, executives from the company had stated that although sales were down even more this year, the company had positioned itself for long term growth. The growth reportedly was coming from the introduction of a smaller product that was at a better value in their Back Supporter line.
