Simmons Makes Plans to Close Atlanta Facility

The Simmons Co. a major bedding manufacture has announced that it will be closing it’s Atlanta based factory sometime later this month. The news will also shut down the 103 jobs the factory provides for local residents.

The mattress company plans to move the production load to their two Southeastern plants. As with many other companies, the slow economy and low sales have forced the company to down grade.

Sluggish sales had already spurred the company to cut back to only running one shift at the plant in April. The production demands will still be met by factories in Waycross Georgia  and Charlotte N.C. beginning on September 18th.

While this is bad news for the Atlanta employees, a company spokesman said that they don’t have any more plans to shut down other factories.
