Shermag Inc. Furniture Closing 4 Plants

Shermag Furniture has announced that they will be closing four of their eight plants. The plants are located in New Brunswick and Quebec, Canada. 320 workers will be losing their jobs.
Claude Pichette, Chairman of the board, stated that the move to close the plants was a response to the housing slow down in the United States and increased competition in the Asian markets.
After the closings are finalized Shermag will have a remaining work force of 750 people. Three years ago, in 2004, the furniture manufacturer employed 2,400 workers. Since that time Shermag has been hit with lay offs and plant closings.
