An administrative complaint has been filed against the Sauder Woodworking plant for alleged violations of the Clean Air Act. The EPA has accused the furniture maker of violating the monitoring requirements of the boiler at it facility in Archbold, Ohio.
The company has said that it will appeal the EPA’s proposed fine of $328,334. Kevin Sauder, company president says that they will vigorously appeal the fine and that the plants deviations from the emission limits was way below what is allowed by law. And, that the plants total performance was at or below the levels permitted.
The EPA says that they only learned of the excess emission violations when the company submitted reports of them to the state. Sauder was notified of the violations in April of 2008 and again this year in February. Both times the EPA met with the company to discuss the issue and how to resolve it.
