As sustainability becomes even more important, the American Society of Furniture Designers has decided to recognize sustainable furnishings with a new Pinnacle Design Achievement Award. The award will be given for excellence in the design of green home furnishings has not yet been named.

Before they are presented to the judges, entries will have to go through the Sustainable Furnishings Council. There is a wide spectrum of categories that are likely to include features such as the wood used, the finishes, textiles, leathers, glass and plastic content and several other things such as cushioning.

Along with meeting sustainability standards, the pieces must all be well designed and a good value. The deadline for this year’s entries hasn’t yet been decided, but winners will be announced at the High Point fall market. The Pinnacle Design Achievement Awards were established in 1995 to encourage recognition of design quality and furniture designers.
