Another round of layoffs is hitting the furniture industry, this time employees in Mississippi will be heading to the unemployment lines. Leggett and Platt which manufacturers hardware components that are used in rockers and recliners announced 259 layoffs.

The company is cutting back on 172 jobs in Saltillo at their Omega Motion plant and another 87 from their Tupelo plant, Super Sagless. The company plans to start the layoffs right before the Christmas season at both plants.

Unlike most furniture workers that have found themselves without jobs in recent months, Leggett and Platt employees will have a safety net. The company has said that all of the workers affected by the layoffs will get at least 60 days of severance pay and benefits. They’re also offering job placement assistance for anyone that is interested.
