More bad news in the furniture industry as IKEA recently announced that it will be cutting even more jobs. The company has already eliminated 5,000 jobs around the globe in the past ten months. Now, they’re planning to cut their work force even more.
Founder Ingvar Kamprad said that they didn’t know exactly how many jobs would be affected, but that they needed to reduce personnel that work mainly in the logistics and production areas. The cuts are an effort to adjust to the slumping sales that have fell way below budget.
IKEA was founded in 1943 and has around 140,000 employees globally. The company already consists of 246 stores and is planning on opening 50 more stores. IKEA spokeswoman said that the company would still be hiring new employees for the new stores when they opened.
