Florida Ashley Store’s File Chapter 11

The operators of five North Carolina Ashley Furniture HomeStores have announced that they filed for Chapter 11 in Florida to force a store that has been locked down by a landlord to be reopened. However, they did not identify which landlord had padlocked the location or which one of the five stores was locked down.

“We were trying to renegotiate a lease we could live with long-term,” Hudson said, but the landlord locked the store on Tuesday. Hudson and Hodge say their attorney believes it’s a case of “improper termination of lease,” and that the Chapter 11 filing will enable them to get back to business at the showroom.

Last month, Hodge and Hudson announced that they would be closing the Durham and Goldsboro, North Carolina location with plans to relocate to a better area in the Durham area and maybe open a new format at the Goldsboro location. While this still hasn’t happened, the plan is still in the works.
