China Assigned Duties on Inner Spring Mattress Imports

On an investigation launched at the request of Leggett and Platt, the U.S. Department of Commerce has now placed import duties on innerspring mattresses from China. Leggett and Platt had requested an investigation into the selling practices of Chinese mattress manufacturers.

The investigation into their pricing methods determined that Chinese producers were selling the items at prices that are less than the fair market value. The new duties will apply to all mattresses including youth and crib mattresses, but won’t be charges on innersprings that are used to make upholstered furniture.

The Department of Commerce investigation included Vietnam and South Africa. The findings were the same for both countries, but duties had already been assigned earlier.
