Las Vegas Market Putting More Emphasis On Green

At the next show which runs from February 1-5, the Las Vegas Market plans to continue emphasizing sustainability with the new green initiatives. The market’s One Good World program will be expanded to include a locater forĀ  supplier’s called One Good Guide.

The guide will help buyers find suppliers of legitimate sustainable products who will be placed in a special section of the directory. Companies that wish to be listed in the guide will be required to submit an application that includes declarations about wood sourcing, transportation, material usage, foams used in their products and VOC emissions.

In addition to being placed in a special section of the directory, participants will get showroom signage and window decals that will help to call attention to their status as a supplier of sustainable products. They will also get public relations support and online marketing.

Jesper Office Joins Las Vegas Market For The First Time

Jesper Office will be joining the Las Vegas Market next month for the first time. An importer of Danish entertainment and home office furniture, Jesper will show in the World Market Center’s building B in space 765 which consists of 2,700 square feet.

President and CEO, Joern Skarregaard said, “Our new temporary space in Building B will be a trial destination for our dealers and will allow us to explore gaining a more active presence on the West Coast. We hope exhibiting in Las Vegas will give us the opportunity to promote our small and home office/entertainment products to dealers that we have otherwise not had enough time with in High Point.”

Among the products taht Jesper Office will be featuring is their new No. 500 office line. The line designed by Joerg Dietz and Eckhart Huser is available in white lacquer with cherry laminates and smoked acrylic panels. The group includes several pieces such as desks, storage pieces, privacy screen dividers and modesty panels.

Bernie’s Furniture Chain Files Bankruptcy

According to a company attorney, Bernie’s has filed for bankruptcy under Chapter 11 and has plans to close all of the companies stores. Bernie’s operates 15 stores including 8 that are located in Connecticut. The effect the weak economy has had on sales was sited as the cause of the filing.

Marc Needleman, Bernie’s lawyer, stated that the company is making every effort to protect their customers. And, that the company has asked the bankruptcy court to honor any gift cards, rebates and customer deposits. Bernie’s warranties were through a third party so all previous purchases will still be covered.

The company has also asked the courts permission to start a going out of business sale at all of it’s locations. Besides the locations in Connecticut, Bernie’s has stores in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Bernie’s began in 1947 in a Hartford gas station and grew into the largest independent retailer of applicances and televisions in New England.
