Work related injuries are becoming more of a concern every day. Michigan is one state that has decided to try to do something about the problem. The state has plans to institute regulations that will specifically target repetitive stress injuries.
If the new rules are imposed, every employer will be required under law to offer their employees ergonomic training. They will also be required to do their part to correct any work related injuries.
While the new regulations would no doubt be good for employees, employers won’t fair as well. With the economy already in a struggling state, the extra financial burden of providing this training is going to hurt some companies, especially small ones.
The new regulation will also give state regulators the power to inflict punishments on any employers that have numerous amounts of work related injuries. So far, California has been the only other state that has instituted regulations similar to this one.
But, with the growing number of work place injuries and mounting concern, it’s almost sure that other states will eventually follow lead.

Yet another furniture store has lost the battle with the economy and has emptied out their showroom and locked their doors. Shadow Furniture in Arizona has become the latest to follow suit by closing earlier this month.
This has became a more common place occurance lately with the price of everything keeping people from purchasing even the things they need.
But, it seems that every time a furniture store closes down, they’re leaving customers in the lurch.
With the loss of Shadow Furniture to the area, several customers also found them selves lost without furniture they’d already paid for. And, with little hope for a relief in the economy in the near future, this is bound to be something that’s we’re going to see again.

Having an ergonomic office means much more than just having ergonomic office furniture and accessories. You have to know how to take advantage of the ergonomic design in order for it to benefit your body.
Having a monitor arm isn’t going to prevent shoulder, neck or eye strain if you don’t adjust it correctly. Your monitor should be at eye level and you should be looking straight in front of you to see it, not tilting, raising or lowering your head.
Your ergonomic chair should be adjusted so that your feet sit flat on the floor. You should be able to get three of your fingers between the back of your knees and the chair. And, you backrest should be comfortably pressing against the curves of your back.
Ergonomically designed furniture is designed to make your job more comfortable and protect you from injuries and pain. But, the furniture can’t do it all by itself. You’ve got to help the furniture help you by making the proper adjustments!

If you’re like most business owners, there just never seems to be enough space in your offices. And, there are even times that you need an empty room for presentations or special meetings. Wouldn’t it be nice if you can have rows of tables that you can use for work, but then put them away if you need the room cleared?
Well, with folding tables you can do just that! You can provide your employees with tables to perform their job duties and when you don’t need them put them away. Folding tables have tops that conveniently drop down and allow you to easily stack them together using a minimum amount of space.
You can align them against the wall or remove them from the room completely. It’s one of the ways that you can make your offices perform dual functions.

Whether you operate a medical office or a general business office the information that you keep on your computer is irreplaceable. Accidents happen and computer hardware fails, but you can add some extra protection to you computer with a CPU holder.
A CPU holder will mount your computer tower underneath your desk or table to keep it out of the way and off of the floor. It’s one office accessory that you should have for every computer your business uses.
It might seem like an unnecessary expenditure with everything else your business needs. But, if you think about how much you’d pay to get all of your information back if it got destroyed, a CPU holder is definitely a necessity.
You have firewalls, virus protection and other types of programs running to keep your information secure. A CPU holder is just one more way to add security to your data.

It’s a proven fact that as far as comfort goes, your office chair is one of the most important pieces of furniture that you can purchase. Standard chairs cause your back, shoulders and neck to ache and when you’re in pain you can’t fully concentrate on your work.
The importance of proper support when you have to sit at a desk for hours is invaluable. Your chair should have fully adjustable controls for both height and tilt positions. The cushions should contour to the shape of your body and cradle you in comfort.
Another important feature of an office chair is wheels! While it might not seem like must have feature, having wheels keeps you from having to scoot your chair into the right position with the desk.
If you don’t have an ergonomic chair , make sure the next chair you purchase is correctly designed. You’ll be amazed at the difference and you body will thank you!

While many office furniture manufacturers started making their products more green years ago, some smaller companies are finding it harder to make the conversion. But, by the fall every company in the office furniture business will have a green guide to follow.
The Business and Industrial Furniture Manufacturers Association has been working on compiling the green guide for for two years and it’s almost ready to distribute. The guide will list plastic resins that emit very little or no chemicals at all, natural alternatives to stuff cushions and upholstered office furniture and many other green ideas.
As a symbol for customer awareness products will earn either silver, gold or platinum status for their environmentally friendly construction. Some things points toward status will be awarded will depend on the material toxicity, use of recycled materials, amount of fuel and other resources required to produce the product and the impact production has on greenhouse gases.
The guide lines are the first of it’s kind to be implemented nationwide and is expected to need revisions within just three years. It’s a good thing for the environment, but may be a slight burden on smaller business to implement.

When it comes to the color scheme and furnishings in your office, you might not think much about it except whether you like it or not. But, the colors of the walls, floors and even your office furniture can actually increase or decrease stress levels at work!
Decorating your office in cool colors like blues, greens or whites can create a calming effect, motivate you and reduce the production of the stress hormone cortisol! Adding live plants can also create a soothing, cheerful effect and reduce the stress that many office workers deal with everyday.
Another easy way to decrease the amount of stress that you feel at the office is to stay organized. A neat desk and well organized files and other work related items gives you a sense of being under control. It can also save you time and headaches from having to search for everything you need.
Simple things like making a to-do list for the day, adding family photographs and even listening to soothing music also reduces stress. If you start to feel stressed and tired, close your eyes for a minute and take deep breaths.
Some office stress just can’t be avoided, things like competition and deadlines are just a given fact of business. But, following just a few simple steps will help reduce the environmental stress.

In a much applauded court victory, Henry Rayford Privette Jr. was convicted of ten counts of wire fraud in a federal court. Privette who ran a furniture business in North Carolina called Carolina Furniture was charged with scamming customers from his online business.
During 2000 and 2003, hundreds of orders that had been placed requiring deposits had never been delivered and refunds had never been given. The combined transactions added up to literally millions of dollars that customers were scammed out of.
U.S. Attorney George Holding expressed gratitude to the jury for finding Privette guilty on all of the charges that had been filed against him. Holding said, “Mr. Privette’s scheme preyed upon hundreds of his fellow citizens and gave a black eye to the North Carolina business community. Today’s verdict is a strong reminder to would-be thieves and con-men to steer clear of the Eastern District of North Carolina.”
