Furniture Companies Closing Stores In California

Slowdowns in new housing is being named as the reason behind recent closings of furniture stores.

Companies closing stores include Furniture Brands, Thomasville, Heritage House, Levitz Furniture and Furnishings Concepts.

Levitz Furniture has actually decided to close all it’s operations and has filed for bankruptcy and is liquidating it’s inventory.

At least eleven furniture stores will be closed in the Bay area of California as furniture manufacturers downsize and consolidate their operations.

Mayline Group Buys AVA Furniture

Mayline Group, a Sheboygan, Wisconsin based office furniture designer and manufacturer, has purchased AVA Furniture.

AVA Furniture has been in operation in San Jose, California since 2003

Paul Simons, president and CEO of the Sheboygan furniture manufacturer said in a press release that the combination will allow them to operate in 32 different states as well as parts of Canada.

Furniture Brands Sets Up Headquarters in China

Furniture Brands International has announced that they have now established an Asian headquarters in China.

Company officials stated that the new office will employ approximately 120 people.

Lynn Chipperfield, a Furniture Brands senior VP, also said that the company has plans to consolidate their plants both in the United States and world-wide.

Avoid Back And Neck Pain In The Office

If you spend a lot of time sitting in an office chair you may experience neck or lower back pain. This is because sitting in a chair in the same position for extended periods of time puts undue pressure on your neck, back, and even your shoulders and arms.

Furniture Brands Names New CEO

This furniture manufacturer announced earleir it’s intentions to name Ralph Scozzafava CEO. They have just released a statement confirming the move. In May of this year Ralph Scozzafava will become the CEO replacing current CEO W.G.  Holliman.

Scozzafava has been the Vice-Chairman of the Board since 1998 and has worked very closely with the current CEO Holliman.

Holliman has expressed complete support for Scozzafava while Scozzafava said that he would continue to work with Holliman for the betterment of the company.

Former Hartford’s Furniture Manager Pleads Guilty To Theft

Todd Olynciw was once a manager who had even received an employee commendation award. Recently Olynciw pleaded guilty to charges that he had defrauded the Connecticut based furniture company.

In a period of five years from 1998 to 2005 Olynciw and others he conspired with took more than $800 thousand from Hartford Furniture.

Olynciw is due to be sentenced March 24th 2008. The former manager may face as much as 25 years in jail as well as having to pay restitution, penalties, interest and back taxes.

The Buying Giant Plans Buy Fair Before Tupelo Market

Before the Tupelo Furniture Market, furnishings and bedding buying group the Buying Giant will be holding a Buy Fair. The fair will take place on January 22 and members will be able to browse and purchase their favorites.

The buying group is currently taking commitments from the product suppliers that wish to exhibit items in the permanent showroom. Before the fair begins, a meeting will be held for members to make suggestions on future goals, review programs and elect new officers.

The Buying Giant started out as the Tennessee Buying Group with a total of five stores over a decade ago. The groups name was changed last year to better represent the 70 storefronts that span eight states that now belong to the group.
