Office Furniture Maker Promises To Add 300 New Jobs

OFS Brands Holdings of Indiana says it will create around 300 new job positions as a result of expansions made to their headquarters in Huntingburg.

Plans call for the jobs will be added to the company by the year 2012. This will bring their workforce to around 1,800 employees.

Business has been very good for this furniture manufacturer with $250,000,000 in annual revenues which is nearly three times their sales volume compared to 1999.

Meadowcraft Announces Plans To Consolidate Furniture Plants

Meadowcraft Inc., a manufacturer of out door furniture, is consolidating two of their furniture manufacturing facilities into one.

The Birmingham, Alabama plant will no longer be used to manufacture furniture. All manufacturing activities will be centralized at the Wadley plant.

Meadowcraft has offered the 220 workers affected by the consolidation jobs at the Wadley plant.

Jerry Camp, President of Meadowcraft, said the move was needed to reduce the consumption of natural gas and to make the company sustainable.

Furniture Maker Tries To Recover From Fire Losses

Massachusetts furniture maker tries to recover from losses due to a fire.

Auclair Fine Furniture, owned by Wally Auclair, was completely destroyed when the Bernat Mill burned down. The Bernat Mill was built in the 1820s and was once one of the largest mills in the United States, At the time of the fire was the home to several businesses including Auclair Fine Furniture.

Auclair stated that his insurance was not enough to rebuild the furniture shop. He also said that he had received donations which helped him to get new tools and equipment.

Office furniture Maker Teknion Corp Receives takeover Bid

A-Tean Holdings Ltd. has announced it’s intention to purchase an additional 38% of shares of Teknion.

This move would putsA-Tean Holdings and it’s partners in control of close to 62% of the total shares.

The sale of the shares will be put up to a vote from the shareholders which will take place in early 2008.

A two thirds majority must be obtained for the sale to be approved.

Herman Miller Furniture Buys Brundrud

In another major move this year by Herman Miller Furniture the company has decided to purchase another furniture company with which it has been working with for about two years now.

Seattle, Washington based Brandrud Furniture is being purchased by Herman Miller. The company specializes in the production of furniture for medical and health care facilities such as seating for waiting rooms.

Illinois Furniture Factory Burns Down

Fiore Quality Furniture’s factory in Cicero, Illinois broke out in flames in the early AM hours of Friday morning.

The 35,000 square foot furniture factory is expected to be a complete loss.

Fortunately, there were no injuries. John and Tom Fiore, the owners of the factory stated the building was empty at the time of the fire.

For 15 years the furniture factory has been the Fiore’s family business.
