Furniture Donated By ExxonMobil Corp. Being Given Away In Texas

The Beaumont, Texas Chamber of Commerce Will be giving free office furniture to anyone who wants it.

The office furniture was originally donated by the ExxonMobil Corp. which first began to make furniture donations at the end of 2005 as a response to those who had losses because of Hurricane Rita.

Cheryl Kizer, a financial manager for the Chamber of Commerce said that the chamber has been given over fifty semi-truck loads of furniture since they first started receiving donations.

Herman Miller Furniture Cuts 150 Jobs

Rumors about pending layoffs in this Zeeland, Michigan furniture manufacturing company have proven to be true.

The layoffs have been done gradually with about 50 workers being let go over the last several days. Naturally, many employees have been very nervous and apprehensive about the rumors and still wonder how many more jobs might be cut.
 
Brian Walker, a company CEO, said that the reduction in the company’s workforce along with other changes being made in the way the furniture company is operating will result in a savings of between 25 to 30 million dollars per year.

Herman Miller Furniture Rumored To Begin Layoffs

Workers at the Herman Miller Furniture manufacturing facility in Zeeland, Michigan say they are preparing themselves for layoffs within the next few days.

Officials from the furniture company made no comments to questions about the expected layoffs earlier this week. However, employees of the company say they have been hearing rumors about the impending layoffs. One employee said that several people have already had their jobs cut

Mark Schurman, a spokesperson for Herman Miller, said that the company would issue a public statement sometime during the first two weeks of December.

Former Davison Furniture Store Destroyed By Fire

Firefighters battled a fire that destroyed a historical building on Main Street in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania.

The Davison Furniture Store had occupied the building for over 100 years, but had been closed down three years ago.

The fire spread to two other buildings including a night club located next to the historical Davison Furniture Store. According to officials the fire has caused more than 200,000 dollars in damages.

This has been the second major fire to occur on this towns Main Street during the past six months.

Ashley Furniture Promises To Deliver Overdue Orders

Several hundreds customers who had pre-paid for furniture products arrived at the Ashley Furniture Store in Santa Maria, California to pick up their merchandise were surprised to find that the store had unexpectedly closed.

The store has been closed down since November 14. Two days later they placed a notice on the door stating that the store would be back open on the 18th, but since that time the store has never re-opened and according to company officials there are no plans to do so.

Officials from the Santa Maria furniture store have released a written statement which included a promise to make good on the orders that were paid in advance by these customers.

Illinois Office Furniture Design Company Changing Location

Louer Facility Planning, an Illinois based furniture design firm, has announced that it will moving it’s operations out of Edwardsville and into Collinsville before the new year.

In a press release submitted by the company, officials said that moving to the new location would permit them to make expansions to their operation to better serve the needs of their customer base.

The furniture design company has operated in it’s current Edwardsville, Illinois location for the past ten years.

Perdue Office Furniture Company Has Been Bought By An Employee

Vince McCormack has been working for the same furniture company in Jacksonville, Florida for 22 years. This month McCormack and a close friend of his has bought the company.

McCormack has stated that he does not plan to make major changes, but he does have plans to make investments to improve the local community where he has lived all of his life.

Perdue Office Interiors currently employs 55 workers and has been ranked as the number one office furniture company in the northeast area of Florida.

La-Z-Boy Furniture Reports Losses

Kurt Darrow, a La-Z-Boy executive, says that a lowered demand for office furniture has led to the company experiencing a loss of nearly 10 million dollars for the second quarter.

This loss equates to about 19 cents on each share. Just a year before the furniture company reported a profit of just under two million dollars.

La-Z-Boy Furniture says that it will delay it’s previous plans to open new locations.
