Ethan Allen Furniture Buys Plant In Mexico

According to Furniture Today, Ethan Allen CEO Farooq Kathwari announced that the furniture company has purchased a 40,000 square feet manufacturing plant in Mexico.

The Mexican cut and sew leather and upholstery facility has 165 employees. Kathwari has stated that the plant produces high quality products and he is confident that it will add good support to Ethan Allen’s upholstery plants.

Ethan Allen Furniture now owns and operates ten manufacturing plants, nine of which are located in the United States.

Friends University Students Get New Office Furniture

Friends University, in Wichita Kansas, has done some remodeling. The Student Government Association is getting new desks for their office. Before now SGA officers had to share their desk, but now each executive will have their own desk.

Roman Rodriguez, President of the SGA, says the remodeled office will allow executives to perform their jobs better and in more comfort.

It is a well proven and accepted fact that workers are more efficient and morale is higher in a well organized office.

Bad News For Stanley Furniture

83 year old company Stanley Furniture has announced bad news for it’s 3rd quarter profits which has resulted in the companies stock dropping to the lowest point in 4 years.

Stanley Furniture announced that it would be laying off nearly 250 workers as part of it’s efforts to consolidate some of their manufacturing plants.

The Chairman of Stanley Furniture Jeffrey Scheffer has said that the company does not expect any improvements in the near future and has lowered their expectations for the remainder of the year 2007.

DMI Wynwood Furniture Changes Presidents

According to Furniture Today, Andy Gillies has resigned from his position as president of Wynwood Furniture in Louisville, Kentucky.

Gillies held this position since 1997 when DMI was first launched. The statement was released by Wynwood Furniture’s parent company DMI Furniture.

Gillies will be replaced by Joseph G. Hill. Hill has served in various senior management positions with DMI for 23 years and was most recently DMI’s vice-president.

The Bombay Company To Close All Us Stores

According to furniture industry trade magazine Home Accents, The Bombay Company will be closing down all it’s United States stores. The final decision is pending approval of a bankruptcy plan filed on September 24 in a Federal Court in Texas.

The Fort Worth based Bombay Company has 384 retail locations in the United States. Company officials stated that stores located in Canada will be unaffected by the closings.

Stanley Furniture Consolidation in Virginia

Stanley Furniture announced that it will be laying off near 250 employees within the next four months. The layoffs are to be a result of actions taken to consolidate their manufacturing facilities in Virginia.

Company officials said that the changes won’t affect operations in Robbinsville or Lexington.

Jeffrey Scheffer, of Stanley Furniture said the changes were in response to a down turn in sales.
